HIKING SCHEDULE FOR WALKERS/HIKERS CLUB FOR 2012

Check the website (www.ohwh-club.com) for updated information. Hikes are subject to change due to weather, trail conditions or unforeseen problems. For these hikes, we meet at 8:30 am in the overflow parking lot and carpool to the hikes. If you choose not to drive, please have gas money for the driver who provides your transporation to the hike/activity. See back side for explanation of hike difficulty.

In an attempt to be more inclusive, most hikes will incorporate two ability levels. This will be done to encourage participation by members of different hiking ability. The difficulty level listed first on each hike will be for the primary hike. When a second difficulty level is listed, this will be an alternative hike at the same location.

Hike Rating Description

EASY:

An easy hike is little more than a strenuous walk with slight elevation change and a good walking surface. This would be suitable for most members of our club who pass the minimum requirement which is to walk the village in less than an hour.

MODERATE:

A moderate hike would consist of a modest elevation change and could be over an uneven terrain with some up and down slopes. This hike would be suitable for the most fit 75% of club members.

DIFFICULT:

This hike would be long and/or steep with up and down grade changes with many possible directional changes. It could include steps over obstructions or stream crossings. This hike would be suitable for 40% of the club members with substantial hiking experience.

VERY DIFFICULT:

This hike would be long and have rugged terrain with the route encompassing severe conditions. A hike of this nature would be suitable for only a few club members.

ALWAYS BRING WATER, HIKING BOOTS, SUNGUARD, HAT AND HIKING POLE(S). IT IS WISE TO CARRY SOME SORT OF FANNY PACK WITH A CELL PHONE.
